Job Summary

This position reports to the France Finance and Operations Manager and is responsible for the monthly close of the books as well as internal financial reporting of The MathWorks’ sales office in the France. The position is responsible for the general day-to-day operations of the Finance area including payroll administration, financial systems administration, and business information reporting.

The position is also responsible for the preparation of the annual statutory accounts and is the lead contact for all audit matters. In addition this role administers vendor relationships for accounts payable, handles travel expenses, inter-company reconciliations, bank reconciliations, revenue recognition and other general ledger-related tasks



Responsibilities

  1. Assure the integrity of the financial statements, and associated general ledger accounts, complying with local statutory reporting as required and internal parent-company reporting policies.
  2. Lead the use of TMW finance systems, in particular JDE, GQO,  and Business Objects, and lead the use and exploitation of these systems to provide business-wide support.
  3. Develop systems and processes to meet business needs, particularly those of the Sales department, and ensure that internal technology is applied in the most effective way possible.
  4. Deputise for the Finance & Operations Manager when required, leading the other members of the team in decision-making and day-to-day actions, and communicating with internal and external customers of the Finance and Operations team.
  5. Manage all aspects of the payroll process and works with HR and International Finance on payroll and benefits strategy.
    Understand, implement and improve upon Finance policies and guidelines wherever possible, working in close conjunction with the France Finance and Operations Manager.
  6. Record timely and accurately all business related expenses (personnel expenses, travel, marketing, fixed assets, depreciation etc.)
  7. Produce Balance Sheet account analysis and reconciliations while providing supporting schedules. Bank accounts, A/R, A/P, Accruals, etc.
  8. Prepare monthly accruals, analyze business segments and provide recommendations.
    Interface with external auditors, providing schedules, analysis and system documentation as required.
  9. Prepare and submit monthly VAT filings and other statutory filings as required.
  10. Maintain and document the reconciliation of statutory and inter-company income statement, balance sheet and retained earnings.
  11. Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, postings and collections
    Initiate and lead finance related projects internationally


Qualifications

  1. University Level Degree and recognised accountancy qualification (CIMA/ACA/ACCA equivalents).
  2. Proven French statutory accounting experience, preparation and credentials.
  3. 8+ years technical accounting experience with exposure to international accounting principles (US GAAP)
  4. Strong systems and IT skills, with specific and extensive experience of database query building and reporting, abilities in MS Access, and expert (macro-level) Excel skills.
  5. Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines
  6. Proven experience with monthly and yearly closing process, accounts payable, bank reconciliations, payroll, commission and accrual accounting, tax and VAT preparations
  7. Effective communication skills with all levels of personnel.
  8. Possess automated general ledger systems experience inclusive of full monthly close and consolidation. (JD Edwards, Oracle, Sage, etc.)
  9. Experience with the payroll process in France
  10. Exposure to multi-national financial reporting and analysis.
  11. Experience with inter-company transactions, preferably with multi-national transactions.
  12. Experience with multi-currency accounting
  13. Proven international project management experience
  14. Team Leader/management experience
