R2012b Release Highlights 1:23
Release 2012b includes major new releases of MATLAB® and Simulink®, two new products and updates to 82 other products.

MATLAB

New MATLAB Desktop 5:19
MATLAB® Desktop features a toolstrip that organizes commonly used functionality and a gallery of pre-built MATLAB apps.

To help both new and experienced users navigate the continuously expanding capabilities within MATLAB, MathWorks has updated the MATLAB Desktop with two major enhancements:

  • The MATLAB Toolstrip displays icons for the most frequently used MATLAB features, such as selecting the best plot type for data
  • The apps gallery presents apps from the MATLAB product family to allow users to perform common tasks without writing code

Additional new features help users package MATLAB apps to share and display in the gallery, import data from delimited and fixed-width text files via the Import Tool, and correct mistyped functions and variables in the Command Window.

Simulink

Introducing the New Simulink Editor 1:47
See how the new Simulink® Editor makes modeling easier.

The new user interface and features for Simulink mark the beginning of a new era in Model-Based Design, which enables faster, more cost-effective development of dynamic and embedded systems. The Simulink Editor simplifies modeling through capabilities such as:

  • Tabbed model windows for improved window management
  • An Explorer bar for navigating model hierarchy
  • Smart signal routing to determine optimal signal line path
  • Debugging capabilities that rewind simulations and set conditional breakpoints on signals

R2012b also enhances Simulink Projects for managing project files and connecting to source control software, as well as support for running models on target hardware such as Arduino, LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT, BeagleBoard, and PandaBoard.
