Get IP Address of Gumstix Overo Hardware

You can get the IP address of the Overo® hardware using the Linux® command line.

This is an optional task that you can use to:

  • Run a model on a different board from the previous one you used. (Update the Host name parameter as described in Run Model on Gumstix Overo Hardware.).

  • Open a telnet or SSH session with a board whose IP settings you do not know.

  • Configure the UDP Send block.

To get your board's IP address using a command-line session:

  1. Open a serial command-line session on your board, as described in Open a Serial Command-line Session with Gumstix Overo Hardware.

Alternatively, you can use a terminal window after accessing the Linux desktop as described in:

  2. At the Linux command line, enter ifconfig.

  3. Locate the eth0 device, and get the value of inet addr in the command-line output. For example, 172.28.144.36 in the following output:

    root@overo-ah-rdlugyhe1:~# ifconfig
    eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:15:C9:28:F2:FE
              inet addr:172.28.144.106 Bcast:172.28.144.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
