I used the code:
a := series(sin(x), x)
and it gave me the error:
Error: "a" was previously used as a variable,
conflicting with its use here as the name of a function or command.
See MATLAB Programming, "How MATLAB Recognizes Function Calls That Use Command Syntax" for details.
Can someone please help me with this?

There is no := operator in MATLAB. Get rid of the colon.

All right, then how can we help? Have you provided anyone with what might be necessary to help you, like error messages, an m-file, or data file? What toolbox is "series()" in? You didn't list your toolboxes in the Product box either.
