It will be interesting to add a legend to this plot. ;-)

Thanks for the note. I've reported the problem to the right people here.

The comment about Cody was a copy-and-paste mistake. Thanks for pointing it out. Running the code outside the context of Trendy is a little tricky, since you need to bring the data down from the site. Here's a post that might help: http://blogs.mathworks.com/community/2014/07/11/weather-prediction-how-far-can-you-go/

Plot is broken. Can you fix it?

about 1 month ago

How do you run this? Copying and pasting the code gives the error

Undefined function or variable 'time1756'.
Error in test3 (line 5)
t = time1756;

The first line says "Top players in Cody" - do I need to do something in Cody first?

about 1 month ago

The plot is not broken. Trendy just thinks that it is.

Rapidly dropping in popularity!

It seems that player table needs an update :-)

This is a cumsum histogram, isn't it? Nice!

About your code inprovement: Yes! you're right! but the function urlfilter does also an urlreal call, and since I have taken yet the hmtl code in the loop, I decided to get the number by my self... ;-)

6 months ago

Thanks!

Yes I found not fair to say I'm the top #N from 25k Players, wenn soooo many does not have score at all... ;-)

6 months ago

Ha ha :-D Newer expected so many ghost-players. Like it!

As well as your code, you can use:
pre='http://www.mathworks.co.uk/matlabcentral/cody/players';
zero='?term=score%3A0';
pattern='1 – 50 of ';
[-urlfilter([pre zero],pattern) 0]+urlfilter(pre,pattern);

J.R.! Menzinger submitted a comment to the trend "why?"

They updated the function "updatetrend.m"... isn't it? :-/

Maybe is it more interesting to collect this data hourly... ;-)

How can we see the code that was used to extract the data from the web-site? I am interested in doing something similar but cannot figure out how to do the data scraping. Many of the sites do not seem to use pure html but have java mixed in. I am interested to find out more.

end

BTW, it is getting cold here in Illinois. Which means we have to change the range of the Y-axis unfortunately!

The astute will notice that there are breaks in the data. This is because we had to power down our Raspberry Pi Model A a few times.
Sadly, our Model A is not in a good place right now. We rebuilt the kernel and it will no longer shut down!

I agree with your comment even if I didn't do it on purpose !

J.R.! Menzinger submitted a comment to the trend "Top 50 Cody players"

No, no, no!! I said it was fine as it was!! ;-)
Now it is broken! :'-(
Try this:
% as of 15-Nov-2012 (badges appear) :
url = 'http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/cody/players';
html = urlread(url);
e = regexp(html, '^span class=''sort_highlight''v(\d*?)^/spanvScore','tokens');
for ii = 1 :50
scoring(ii) = str2double(e{ii}{1});
end
updatetrend(scoring)
Note: on the regexp '^' must be changed by 'less than' ans 'v' must be changed by 'bigger than' (it was not displayed correctly on this comentar).

11 months ago

Nooooo!! it was nice!!! because of this separation of 1000 to 2000 points... we could calculate the time the 50th player reaches the 10k mark... :-D

11 months ago

lol not is is fixed ! In the trend only the 4 first numbers were taken , therefore a score of 10000 points became a score of 1000

Trends aren't scalars. You can update a trend with more than one element, but this must be a vector.

Take a look hier:

J.R.! Menzinger submitted a comment to the plot "World Mood 2"

Try to add this code at the end:
%%
set(gcf, 'Position',[416 45 663 770])

yticks = [1 10 100 1000];
set(gca, 'YScale','log' , ...
'YLim',[1 8000] , ...
'YTick',yticks , ...
'YtickLabel',strsplit(num2str(yticks)))

legend('Love', 'Joy', 'Surprise', 'Anger', 'Envy', 'Sadness', 'Fear', ...
'Location','SO' , 'Orientation','horizontal')

xlabel({'Time' ; ' '})

Ii looks very nice this jumps of the +10k Scores... ;-)

J.R.! Menzinger submitted a comment to the plot "Top 50 Cody players"

I made yesterday some new plots and I tested some possibilities to make the plots nicer.

My choice was at the end to place the legend "SouthOutside", but first I created the figure with a defined position, like this:
figure('Position',[440 28 560 970])

that means a larger figure, so it fits better on this web design. ;-)

Also I added an empty line on the x-label, so it's shown separeted to the x-ticks.

Take a look to the code of my plots. I will appreciate your comments.

11 months ago

related to this plot I made another one: http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/trendy/plots/1201

;-)

11 months ago

Thanks!! The only error is the position of the arrows, it isn't correct anymore since the figure is exported... On a PC works fine the code.

11 months ago

Cool plot! (and very nice effects with html markup, annotations, ticklabels, etc.)

Hi José:

I'm puzzled by that too. I'll keep working at it, but in the meantime, I changed your squared letters so they will display. I know you want your é and your ó back, but for now I think this is better than little white boxes.

12 months ago

Why looks now my name on the legend so "squared"?? :-(

here it looks good: http://www.mathworks.de/matlabcentral/trendy/plots/1167
