### Description

WORLDTIDES and WORLDCURRENTS are MATLAB toolboxes for water level and water current analysis for scientific and commercial applications. Measurement data are read from Excel worksheets to simplify data organization and formatting, as well as to provide serial date and time. Harmonic analysis is quickly done through a graphical user interface (GUI), offering complete versatility in the selection of up to 35 tidal constituents. Selected sets of tidal constants from the analysis can then be stored for use with a complementary program to generate tidal predictions. WORLDCURRENTS obtains principal axis currents by eigenvector methods and performs harmonic analysis of water currents. After analysis, daily and monthly predictions of astronomical tides and tidal currents can be produced quickly in both graphic and tabular form.

WORLDTIDES AND WORLDCURRENTS take advanced tidal analysis out of the black box in the backroom and put it in the hands of marine scientists and engineers with practical problems to solve in every corner of the world. These problems involve the study of coastal zone storm tides and storm surge, hydrographic surveying and dredging operations in combination with port development, better design information for coastal infrastructure, marine conservation, and the production of electric power from tides and tidal currents.

MATLAB is an ideal tool for performing least-squares harmonic analysis of water level and water current histories to extract periodic components at known astronomic frequencies. The main computational task in this instance is handled entirely with matrix algebra. WORLDTIDES and WORLDCURRENTS capitalize on the versatile family of matrix functions in MATLAB to perform tidal analysis and prediction quickly with a minimal amount of coding. MATLAB can also read and organize data from Microsoft Excel worksheets, and display and access processed data with interactive graphics. However, users will also benefit from a carefully organized GUI that permits you to make a number of complex choices while keeping the overall task simple and straightforward.
